China’s International Energy Strategies: Global and Regional Implications

Imports of all forms of energy are increasing, national energy companies are investing around the world, and the government is active in different forms of energy diplomacy. These behaviours are driven by a range of interests from within and outside China. The external political consequences are probably greater than the economic ones, and vary around the world. China is a key player, along with Japan, in determining the rate of progress of energy cooperation around the world.
